The Vagifem tablet is inserted with a disposable applicator directly into the vagina to locally treat the symptoms of Atrophic Vaginitis due to Menopause, including burning or itching, dryness, painful or difficult urination, and increased urge to urinate.
Common side effects associated with this medication are headache, bloating or weight gain, minor swelling, breast pain, stomach pain, mild nausea or vomiting, vaginal discharge or itching, and light spotting. However, some side effects are severe and require medical assistance. Stop using Vagifem and immediately call your doctor if you experience: toxic shock syndrome, jaundice, unusual sweating, unusual weight loss, anxiety, confusion, memory problems, drowsiness or a tired or restless feeling, severe headache, seizure, joint pain, muscle pain or weakness, overactive reflexes or muscle tightness, sudden numbness or weakness especially on one side of the body, blurred vision, slurred speech, problems with balance or vision, sense of pounding in neck or ears, nosebleed, unusual increase in hunger or thirst, dry mouth, fruity-smelling breath, a numb or tingling sensation around the mouth, lump in breast, irregular heartbeat or heart rate, chest pain or pressure especially spreading to the shoulder or jaw, shortness of breath, wheezing or rapid breathing, coughing up blood, swelling especially with tenderness in the stomach, pain with redness or warmth and swelling in the legs, nausea and vomiting, constipation, increased urination, unusual or severe vaginal bleeding.
